Designed to Thrive on Fiber
In the beginning, God gave Adam and Eve a vegetarian diet. In Genesis 1:29, God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” After the flood of Noah (in Gen.9:3), God said that man could also eat animals. When He dispersed people from Babel, it is likely that God “created” the different races and blood types, such that some people do thrive on somewhat different diets than others. At the time of Moses, God gave dietary guidelines to the Jewish people about which animals are good to eat, and which are more risky.
The point that I want to emphasize, though, is that we were originally designed to eat vegetables, fruits, grains, and nuts. Basically, we were designed to thrive on a high-fiber, vegetarian diet. Some people today find that they do best when their diet includes a lot of protein. This is sometimes the case, but even then, it is important toinclude a lot of fiber in one’s diet. Fiber is one of the keys to a long, healthy life.
What is Fiber?
Fiber is the non-digestible portions of plants, which go through our digestive tract like a sponge. It cleans our intestines, and it absorbs poisons. Fiber softens our stool to a comfortable degree… not like diarrhea. In fact, diarrhea is often our body’s desperate attempt to cleanse itself, after long periods without enough fiber.
Did you know that most of our body’s immune system is in and around our intestines? According to , % of our immune system . Man who compared the health of blacks who live in South Africa and still eat traditional diets with blacks in the United States. Among those in South Africa, who ate a high-fiber, plant-based diet, western diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease are nearly non-existent. Dr. said, “You can tell more about a person’s health by how much stool they pass each day, than you can by their blood pressure, etc.
Most automobiles are designed to run on gasoline. Read the owner’s manual, and it will tell you the right kind of fuel. In the same way, according to the Bible, God originally designed plants to be our fuel. God specifically designed different plants to meet the different nutritional needs of our bodies. What an amazing array of foods God has given us!
